bdjobs.com removed BATB and JTI ads from its website
With this follow-up on tobacco companies' advertisement on bdjobs.com, PROGGA would like you to know that the Anti-tobacco Media Alliance (ATMA) and PROGGA have successfully managed to persuade bdjobs.com to remove visual advertisements of BATB and JTI from its website. The job-hunting website acknowledged that they were not aware of this issue before and assured PROGGA and ATMA that such violation will no longer take place.
It should be noted that bdjobs.com is a major go-to website for the country’s youth with a massive daily visitor count exceeding 100,000. BATB and JTI are currently the world’s third and fourth largest tobacco giants with an identical aggressive business outlook, looking for new market in developing countries. According to the existing Smoking and Tobacco Products Usage (Control) (Amendment) Act, 2013 of Bangladesh, all kinds of promotional activities that uphold the tobacco industry's commercial interests are prohibited and considered as punishable offence.
