Declaring the price while promoting the product

Grameen Bidi is promoting its products all over the country under the disguise of declaring the price of bidis. This aggressive advertisement campaign has been observed all over the country very recently. The poor working class of the country constitute the majority of bidi consumers. Grameen Bidi’s campaign aims at encouraging the poor to light up at a cheap cost. GATS 2017 has revealed that the number of people who have seen any sort of promotion of bidi products has increased by 22.5 percent between 2009 and 2017. It should be mentioned here that Article 5 of the Smoking and Tobacco Products Usage (Control) (Amendment) Act, 2013 has banned all sorts of commercial activities to promote tobacco usage as unlawful and punishable offense. the punishment for advertising tobacco and tobacco products, under the existing law, is a simple imprisonment or a monetary fine not exceeding Tk. 100,000 or both the penalties and if the offence is found again, the punishment will be doubled or tripled accordingly.
