Japan Tobacco Inc. (JTI) has brought out another innovative marketing campaigns aimed not only at customers but also sellers. An investigation reveals that company representatives wearing JTI t-shirts take position in front of points-of-sale with a view to manipulating smokers into buying Sheikh or Navy. If the buyer purchases 5 sticks of those brands, he will be given an attractive box to keep the cigarettes. They are also collecting the names, phone numbers and signatures of those customers. People are being directly manipulated into lighting up through such a shameless promotional campaign. It should be noted that as per the 5(G) section of the tobacco control law, any promotion at the points-of-sale is strictly prohibited and a punishable offense. Such aggressive promotional campaign by JTI, violating TC law, must be stopped. |
