TI & NBR Nexus: Covert meeting on tobacco taxation on
Multinational tobacco giant British American Tobacco, Bangladesh (BATB) and other domestic tobacco companies have been engaged into a closed-door meeting with the NBR Chairman at his office today (28 April, 2014) since morning. Although the meeting was scheduled as part of a pre-budget discussion on tobacco taxation in the upcoming budget, the tobacco makers denied attending the meeting in public. Thereby, the NBR arranged the closed-door meeting. Some of the Anti-Tobacco Medial Alliance (ATMA) journalists are seen waiting outside of the Chairman’s room.
