Illegal BATB Advertisements
Recently, British American Tobacco Bangladesh (BATB) has been advertising for its different products by printing leaflets showing the prices of per stick cigarette. The company is also conducting another promotion by ‘Selling Cigarettes at Fair Price’ campaign. One of the images marking the International Women’s Day 2017 show such a scene. Based on the Smoking and Tobacco Products Usage (Control) (Amendment) Act 2013, all types of advertisements in Point of Sales (PoS) is banned. If the law is violated with such ads, the violator(s) will be punished with a simple imprisonment not exceeding three months or a monetary fine not exceeding Tk 100,000 or the both. This is an ill tactic of BATB to promote its products and influence the upcoming budget for FY 2017-18.
