The aggressive death marketing strategy followed by BAT is almost the same across the world. It enters into the state machineries and impedes the formulation and implementation of the tobacco control activities. Recently, it has been proved that BAT bribed heavily to the parliament members and the Government officials of some African countries to undermine tobacco control law. BAT aggression in Bangladesh is also prevalent. After intruding into the administration, BAT’B is receiving different benefits. It has gained award officially (ICSB Awards) for the second time for practicing good governance, transparency and accountability. The government should refrain from awarding such a bribing company for good governance, transparency and accountability.
BATB has also violated the tobacco control law in the recently wrapped up Classical Music Festival arranged by Bengal Foundation by installing point of sale and a smoking zone. BATB installed the illegal structure inside Bangladesh Army Stadium to attract audience of different level where 56,000 audiences including the top level ministers and bureaucrats went to enjoy five-day long music festival. It is also desperate to implement the Battle of Mind 2015. It has started the first round with 170 competitors who were picked from 2687 applicants of 18 universities from the selection round. The administration is inactive to stop the illegal show.
BATB is running its tobacco business in such ways. Let us unveil the mask of BATB and help in implementing the tobacco control law and contribute in protecting the public health.
