Flaunting the slogan ‘A Better Tomorrow’, two organizations have recently handed over the ‘Bangladesh Sustainability Excellence Awards 2023’. British American Tobacco (BAT) has been using this exact slogan worldwide to promote e-cigarette and vaping products. It is quite concerning to see the promotion of such deadly items on the pretext of giving awards at a time when the government of Bangladesh has taken measures to amend its tobacco control law to ban e-cigarettes and vaping products. Notably, the World Health Organization (WHO) has recently urged countries to adopt urgent steps to control e-cigarettes. We hope that the government will not get derailed by the ill tactics of tobacco companies and finalize the draft amendment by prioritizing public heath above all other issues.
