Death Marketing-1New Trap of Philip Morris
The big tobacco Philip Morris International has adopted a new advertising strategy. To manipulate the youth into smoking, it now prints leaflets with the message ‘Made from the Top 5 Percent Tobacco of the World’ to promote its brand and make it appear as ‘safer choice’. It should be noted that the Section 5 of Smoking and Tobacco Products Usage (Control) Act (Amended, 2015) 2013 penalizes any form of activities related to “Advertising of tobacco products” and also refers that all types of direct, indirect or commercial activities to promote the product is banned. The penalties for violating the rules contain rigorous imprisonment for not exceeding three months or a monetary fine less than BDT 100,000 or both, and if the law is violated for the second time, the fine will be doubled accordingly. Such ill attempts should be stopped to protect public health |
