Death Marketing-1BATB promotes cigarette with new 'Champion' pack
British American Tobacco Bangladesh (BATB) has launched a new campaign titled Derby Champion Pack throughout the country with a view to expanding its young customer base. This campaign is nothing but the promotion of the death-trader’s brand run under the pretext of design change of the packs. Repeated violation of tobacco control law with no consequences has made tobacco companies brave enough to launch more and more aggressive marketing campaign. Notably, the punishment for advertising tobacco and tobacco products, under the existing law, is a simple imprisonment or a monetary fine not exceeding Tk. 100,000 or both the penalties and if the offence is found again, the punishment will be doubled or tripled accordingly. BATB is continuing its publicity of tobacco products which is undoubtedly a clear violation of the law. This death marketing that is utterly detrimental to health must be stopped. |
