Death Marketing-1JTI distributing cigarette selling boxes violating TC Law
Multinational tobacco company Japan Tobacco Company (JTI) is now distributing decorated boxes among sellers to sell tobacco products. These boxes have been decorated with JTI brand color and also attached with JTI display boards. This is not only to promote tobacco but also to attract the youth to its products. According to Tobacco Control Law 2005, any promotion of tobacco products at points-of-sales is strictly prohibited. The punishment for advertising tobacco and tobacco products, under the existing law, is a simple imprisonment up to 3 months or a monetary fine up to Taka 100,000 or both. The penalties will be doubled or tripled according for repeated offence. To ensure the proper implementation of the law, such promotional campaigns must be stopped. |
