JTI Desperate to Get Business Benefits

Japan Tobacco International (JTI) has recently written a letter to Bangladesh Competition Commission where it alleged that its business in Bangladesh is being interrupted. It also mentioned in the letter that Japan government holds a 33.35 percent share in this business. Previously, on behalf of JTI, the Japanese ambassador to Bangladesh has sent a letter addressed to the Finance Minister of Bangladesh, listing its many grievances and calling for redressal from the government. It should be noted that the multinational tobacco company entered the Bangladeshi market in 2018 through a foreign direct investment (FDI).
Relevant government agencies should work together for better tobacco control to facilitate the realization of the HPM’s vision of a tobacco-free Bangladesh.
