Death Marketing-1JTI Violating TC Law
While the existing TC law of Bangladesh bans all sorts of advertisement and promotion of tobacco products at points-of-sale and considers the violation as a punishable offense, Japan Tobacco International (JTI) has recently started promoting its upcoming cig brand, Camel. The company has recently been distributing colorful stickers with an alluring message, "World-Conquering Brand in Bangladesh: Coming Soon". There is a QR Code printed on the sticker and upon scanning the code, it leads to a video infographic on Camel cigarettes. Such tech-based promotion of cigarettes is aimed at one goal only: to attract potential youth customers. Strict implementation of the tobacco control law is a must to put an end to such innovative promotion by tobacco companies. |
