Death Marketing -2‘Consumer Enquiries’- BATB attempt to entrap consumers
Recently, the BATB has been conducting advertisements to justify the quality of their products which is also banned by the law. Investigations have found that a toll-free number titled with ‘John Player Gold Leaf Consumer Enquiries’ is pasted in point-of-sales which will be beneficial for the consumer to inform about any complains about Gold Leaf. In fact, this is a disguised way to promote their brand to the mass people. But following the Section 5 of Smoking and Tobacco Products Usage (Control) Act (Amended, 2015) 2013 any form of activities related to “Advertising of tobacco products” which also refers that all types of direct, indirect or commercial activities to promote the product is banned. The penalties for violating the rules contain rigorous imprisonment for less than three months or a monetary fine less than BDT 100,000 or both, and if the law is violated for the second time, the fine will be doubled accordingly. But by violating the law, BATB is advertising its product gradually. |
