Death Marketing -2BATB's new marketing trap
British American Tobacco has been promoting its lethal products in the name of quality control by violating tobacco control law. Investigation reveals that a toll-free number containing STAR, DERBY, PILOT, and HOLLYWOOD has been installed in different stores so that buyers can report any complaints related to these cigarettes. The main purpose is to promote these brands to the general public. Following the Section 5 of Smoking and Tobacco Products Usage (Control) Act (Amended, 2015) 2013 any form of activities related to “Advertising of tobacco products” which also refers that all types of direct, indirect or commercial activities to promote the product is banned. The penalties for violating the rules contain rigorous imprisonment for less than three months or a monetary fine less than BDT 100,000 or both, and if the law is violated for the second time, the fine will be doubled accordingly. In this way, tobacco company has been promoting tobacco products by violating the law. |
