Death Marketing -2Advertisement Strategy of Dhaka Tobacco
Violating the existing law that bans any advertisement of tobacco products, Dhaka Tobacco Industry is promoting its cigarette brand ‘NAVY’ all over the country. To draw the attention of the consumers, the company is running an advertisement campaign with the message, ‘Enjoy the Bengali New Year with NAVY’s Flavor’. But following the Section 5 of Smoking and Tobacco Products Usage (Control) Act (Amended, 2015) 2013 any form of activities related to “Advertising of tobacco products” which also refers that all types of direct, indirect or commercial activities to promote the product is banned. The penalties for violating the rules contain rigorous imprisonment for less than three months or a monetary fine less than BDT 100,000 or both, and if the law is violated for the second time, the fine will be doubled accordingly. Such ill attempts should be stopped to protect public health. |
