JTI desperate to get hold of the market

The new player in the country’s tobacco trade, Japan Tobacco Inc. (JTI) has become desperate in its attempt to widely market and popularize its cigarette brand Winston, violating the tobacco control law of the land. Without any action from the authority, the company has been promoting its tobacco products, using product display boards along with circulating leaflets among the potential consumers. Notably, the punishment for advertising tobacco and tobacco products, under the existing law, is a simple imprisonment or a monetary fine not exceeding Tk. 100,000 or both the penalties and if the offence is found again, the punishment will be doubled. Tobacco companies are continuing their advertisements by violating the law and such advertisements should be stopped to protect the youths from the destructive clutch of tobacco.
