Japan Tobacco's aggressive marketing campaign violating the law

The existing tobacco control law bans advertisement and promotion of tobacco products in all forms and considers this as punishable offence. At par with the law, the Executive Magistrate of Chattogram City Corporation confiscated two JTI supply vans for violating the TC law by promoting JTI brand color and carrying JTI slogan 'Japanese Quality' on the sides. The Magistrate also ordered the company to remove all such advertisements on JTI vehicles. The company complied at first by painting its local vans in white. However, leopard can never change its spots. Within one week of this Magisterial action, all JTI vans started returning back to its previous colorful promotional forms. This is how JTI is pushing its marketing agenda violating tobacco control laws. Such violations of TC law must be put to an end.
