JTI’s cunning tactics to encourage to expand death trade

In its move to expand death trade and to encourage more and more people to light up, JTI is approaching not only potential customers but also showering sellers with gifts. As a part of promotional campaign for its new brand LD cigarette, the company is giving sellers 01 (one) tea flask, 04 (four) tea cups, 01 (one) gift voucher worth BDT 300 if the sellers are able to sell 7 cartons of LD cigs within a month. The tea cups and flasks are ‘decorated’ with the promotional messages of JTI brand. Such blatant promotion of cigarettes is also encouraging more people into lighting up. It should be mentioned here that Article 5 of the Smoking and Tobacco Products Usage (Control) (Amendment) Act, 2013 has banned all types of promotional activities of tobacco products and usage as unlawful and punishable offense. JTI’s aggressive campaign that violates the tobacco control law needs to be stopped.
