JTI's Promotion Disguised as "Message to Sellers"

Very recently, points-of-sale across the country are getting flooded with leaflets, decorated with packs of Navy cigarettes. Often disguised as messages from the company to the sellers, these promotional items, a violation of tobacco control law, are indeed tactics of Japan Tobacco International (JTI) to draw the attention of potential youth customers. It should be noted that as per the 5 section of the tobacco control law, any promotion at the points-of-sale is strictly prohibited and a punishable offense. The penalty for advertising tobacco products in the existing law is a simple imprisonment not exceeding three months or a monetary fine not exceeding Tk. 100,000 or both. For each repeated violation, the fine doubles or triples accordingly. Such aggressive promotional campaign by JTI must be stopped through the implementation of TC law.
