JTI's Sheer Disregard to Tobacco Control Law

Japan Tobacco Inc. (JTI) is in blatant violation of the country's tobacco control law. The company has been promoting its brands under the guise of cigarette supply system. All over the country, JTI's sales representatives have been travelling from one place to another, wearing the companies brand color and promotional messages. The adolescents and the youth are being drawn into the abyss of tobacco addiction by the aggressive campaign of JTI. Previously, the company also conducted a massive promotional campaign using its slogan "Japanese Quality". It should be noted that as per the 5 section of the tobacco control law, any promotion at the points-of-sale is strictly prohibited and a punishable offense. The penalty for advertising tobacco products in the existing law is a simple imprisonment not exceeding three months or a monetary fine not exceeding Tk. 100,000 or both. For each repeated violation, the fine doubles or triples accordingly. Such aggressive promotional campaign by JTI must be stopped through the implementation of TC law.
