Bidi companies campaigning for tax reduction

As a continuation of previous years, bidi workers in different parts of the country have been organizing human chains and processions under the names of different organizations, demanding a reduction of taxes on bidi and others. Tobacco farmers, businessmen, and bidi workers have already submitted memoranda addressed to the Prime Minister via the Deputy Commissioner of the respective district. Policymakers need to remain cautious regarding such tactics of the bidi industry. This is because there is no alternative to increasing taxes and hiking the prices of tobacco products to realize the vision of becoming a tobacco-free country.
