Death Marketing -2UGC reversing its principles: Violating the Rules It Once Made
Very recently, a University Grant Commission (UGC) member was present as a special guest in a grooming event of BATB-sponsored 'Battle of Mind 2019'. The presence and involvement of this UGC member has brought the role of UGC, the supreme regulatory authority of universities of Bangladesh, under question. This is ironic too since the same Commission, a few days past, released a notice directing an end to the promotion of tobacco companies under the guise of Battle of Minds. The Deputy Minister of Education was also present in the event as its chief guest. Realizing the devastation caused by tobacco, the PM announced her vision of making Bangladesh tobacco-free by 2040. Involvement of such heavyweight persons of policymaking level in an event sponsored by a tobacco company creates a general sense of acceptance amid general public about tobacco companies which is detrimental to the country’s long-term well-being. |
