Death Marketing -2Tobacco Cos strong bond with DAE
Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has recently organized a 3 three-day (June 24-26) Krishi Mela (Agro fair) on fruit plants at naikkhongchharhi under Bandarban District. Local nursery owners and tobacco companies were invited at the fair, and amusingly the tobacco companies did not only participate, they bagged prizes too from the DAE. Thus, it appears that the agro-fair was organized to promote tobacco companies whereas the Article 12 of the revised anti-tobacco law states to deject tobacco farming. It should be noted that tobacco companies maintain an intimate connection with the DAE. Being a government body, subjective attitude of the DAE to tobacco companies is unusual and unexpected as well. Not only they are promoting tobacco makers, they are also awarding them which is a kind of business expansion and entirely unwelcomed. |
